Rap music and the many styles started as far back as the 70's. Hip-hop just does not mean the music. It is a vast society that is full of break dance moves, record or turntable scratches, clothes, and graffiti. Many modern rappers today like to show of their money with fancy jewelry and clothes to homes and cars. Nothing says rich like the word "bling bling".

Hip-hop or (old school) music usually consisted of a D.J. and then a M.C. that is the rapper on the microphone. LL Cool J which stood for (ladies love cool J). Still rocks the microphone even today his music still played on MTV. Many groups like Wu-Tang made other rappers scared of their killer bee type behavior. Then who could ever forget 2-Pac and Notorious B.I.G.

Rap music culture stirred controversy from groups like 2 Live Crew where it walked the fine line of freedom of speech in America. NWA's straight out of Compton album that rapped about girls, money, and a gangster type life filled with money, drugs and Compton, California. Rap music has come along way from just being a faze that people often once described it. It has adapted to the ever-changing style of people today. With East coast rappers battling West coast, rappers now there is even the south, which is becoming a prominent name in the rap game.

Now everyone refers to the music as just rap they does not use the term Hip hop anymore because that was a time over the scratch and the beat box era. Now it is the same music that you love to grow up listening to it is just evolved. With MTV and VH1, many people can find all their latest and favorite rap groups out there.
